Legislator guilty

Youngblood convicted on drunken driving charge

DWI charge stands

A Metropolitan Court judge found House Republican Monica Youngblood guilty of aggravated DWI yesterday, determining that despite the three-term legislator's refusal to take a breath test at a DWI checkpoint earlier this year, other signs, tests and officer testimony showed she was impaired by alcohol. The conviction dims Youngblood's bright political future somewhat, though there's still a chance she hangs onto her seat in the Legislature this November. Sentencing is Oct. 3.

Pearce attacks defender

Citing what he calls important issues of his opponent's contract to run New Mexico's High Risk Insurance Pool, Steve Pearce attacked an attorney who defended her ($) work for the state in a TV ad. Diego Zamora is terminally ill with pancreatic cancer and says in the ad that Michelle Lujan Grisham helped him. Pearce's new spot points at Zamora's less-than-lilywhite past, which includes a period of disbarment by the Supreme Court.

Teachers attack Pearce

Two national teachers unions have teamed up to run an ad that goes after Steve Pearce, saying he supports a school voucher agenda trumpeted by US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. It also pokes at his voting record for education funding.

Affordable venture

The Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association will lose its executive director at the end of the year, as Kim Shanahan steps down. The contractor has piloted the association through some tough times in one of the country's most challenging housing markets. SFR catches up with him to get his thoughts on the changing face of the industry, affordable housing and President Trump's impact.

Racers hit, kill motorcyclist

Two men drag racing along I-25 Sunday night hit and killed a motorcyclist, police say. Ryan Palma and Armando Alvarado fled after they hit Emmanuel Gonzalez from the rear and didn't report the accident. The two ditched the car on a frontage road and were arrested when they came back to get it.

I think that means money

This is a really good time for politically aware rap. So, dead prez will attempt to raise the roof of Meow Wolf's village square-looking concert venue tonight at 9 pm. At $30 a head, it's not cheap, but it'll be an experience.
