New Mexico Reports 678 New COVID-19 Cases and 28 More Deaths

Santa Fe County has three more deaths

New Mexico health officials today reported 678 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 171,719. The health department has designated 99,524 of those cases as recovered.

Bernalillo County had 187 new cases, followed by 66 in Doña Ana County and 59 in San Juan County. Santa Fe County had 54 new cases, 22 from the 87507 ZIP code, which ranked fifth in the state today for most new cases.

The state also announced 28 additional deaths, including three people from Santa Fe County: a woman in her 80s who was hospitalized; another woman in her 80s who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions; and a man in his 80s who was hospitalized, had underlying conditions and was a resident of the BeeHive Homes Santa Fe facility. There have now been 114 deaths in Santa Fe County and 3,226 statewide.

As of today, 556 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.*

Also as of today, the state has administered 239,015 COVID-19 vaccines—60,316 in the last seven days—approximately 86% of the doses it has received. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the state ranks second in the US for per capita distribution of doses.

According to a state news release, previously reported numbers included five cases that have been identified as duplicates (two in Doña Ana County, one in Sandoval County and two in Santa Fe County) and one case in Doña Ana County that has been determined to be an out-of-state resident—these have now been corrected. Two cases previously reported in Otero County have been determined to be among individuals held by federal agencies at the Otero County Federal Prison Facility and are now reported as such. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
