New Mexico Adds 1,703 COVID-19 Cases Over Weekend

The state also announced seven more deaths and 287 people now hospitalized

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported a total of 1,703 new COVID-19 cases. These included a new record high for daily cases on Saturday: 875, as well as the second-highest number of cases on Sunday: 828. There have now been a total of 41,863 cases so far.

Bernalillo County had the most cases on Saturday and a total of 407 cases over the weekend, while Doña Ana County had the most cases on Sunday and a total of 331 cases. Lea County came in a distant third with 97 new cases. Santa Fe County had a total of 86 new cases: 48 on Saturday and 38 on Sunday.

The state also announced seven more deaths, five on Saturday and two on Sunday, including a man in his 20s from Lincoln County. Bernalillo, Chaves, Doña Ana and Socorro also had new fatalities, bringing the statewide total number of deaths to 967.

As of today, 287 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.* By point of comparison, one week ago today, 171 people were hospitalized. According to a news release from the governor's office, as of today, 77% of general beds and 50% of ICU beds are occupied at hospitals across New Mexico with COVID and non-COVID patients.

According to state news release corrections issued over the weekend, previously reported numbers included two cases that have been identified as duplicates in Doña Ana County and one case that was not lab confirmed in Bernalillo County, as well as seven cases (one reported in Bernalillo County and six reported in Cibola County) that have since been identified as being among individuals being held by federal agencies at the Cibola County Correctional Center and are now reported as such. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
