New Mexico Reports 755 New COVID-19 Cases Over Weekend

The state also announced nine additional deaths, including Santa Fe County's eighth.

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported 755 new COVID-19 cases. On Saturday, the state had 486 new cases, just two shy of Friday's all-time high for new cases. On Sunday, there were 269 cases. There have now been 32,983 cases in New Mexico so far, 18,680 of which the health department has designated as recovered.

Bernalillo County added 267 new cases over the weekend, followed by Doña Ana with 113 and Chaves County with 65. Santa Fe had 18 new cases: 10 on Saturday and eight on Sunday. Cases continued to mount at prisons as well, with 15 new cases among federal inmates at the Otero County Prison facility on Saturday and 22 new cases among state inmates at the Lea County Correctional Facility.

The state also announced nine additional deaths—five on Saturday and four on Sunday—in Doña Ana, Eddy, Lea, Luna, McKinley, Roosevelt, San Juan and Santa Fe counties; there have now been 911 fatalities statewide. Santa Fe has had eight deaths.

As of today, 120 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.*

According to state news releases over the weekend, previously reported numbers included eight cases that have been identified as duplicates: four in Bernalillo County, one in Chaves County, two in Doña Ana County and one in Eddy County. Five previously reported cases have been identified as out-of-state residents: two in Doña Ana County, one in Lea County, one in Valencia County and one in Union County—these have now been corrected from the statewide county case counts.

In addition, previously reported numbers included one case reported as an individual being held by federal agencies at the Cibola County Correctional Center that has been identified as a Cibola County resident. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
