High Crime

The highest monthly number of auto burglaries this year helped push September property crimes in Santa Fe slightly above September 2012 levels. The Santa Fe Police Department reports there were 72 auto burglaries last month. Monthly crime statistics show the burglaries among 141 total property crimes in September, a 28 percent increase from the same month in 2012. Property crime numbers for September were still lower than 2011 and 2010 levels, however, and the Santa Fe Police Department continues to tell City Hall that its crackdown on burglars is working. Weekly reports released by SFPD show the battle against property crime continues: On Oct. 20, $10,000 was taken from a residence on the 800 block of Rio Vista Street; on Oct. 21, prescription medication was stolen from another Santa Fe home.
