On June 17, the Rio Metro Regional Transit District Board voted to eliminate weekend service on the New Mexico Rail Runner Express. Results from an April survey of more than 2,300 Rail Runner riders offers a window into how that vote will play out: a decreased (and frustrated) ridership and more cars on the road.
20% of survey respondents said they “usually” ride the train on Saturdays.
51.7% said the frequency of trains needed to be improved. Service frequency received the most votes for “poor” and “fair” of any category.
65% said that, if they weren’t taking the Rail Runner, they would drive alone.
