Backgammon champs descend on Santa Fe

The

's New Mexico State Backgammon Championship is coming to town this weekend.

The club regularly meets at 6 pm every Tuesday in the library at La Posada (330 E. Palace Ave.). This event is the first-ever American Backgammon Tour (ABT)-sanctioned event in New Mexico, and more than 100 backgammon players are flocking to Santa Fe for the event (and receiving a special room rate at La Posada). Special players' dinners are planned at Café Paris (31 Burro Alley) and ¡A la Mesa! (428 Agua Fria St.) over the weekend.

For a full schedule of events—including opportunities to be a backgammon spectator, though that doesn't sound too enthralling—read on.
