A Letter from Tai Brinegar

“Value those places working to keep information available to everyone.”

The Santa Fe Reporter is a precious friend in my daily life.

Having been raised in Santa Fe and lived here most of my life, the SFR is a seamless part of my days. I often think of Wednesday as Reporter Day! Before our pocket computers, I needed (yes, needed!) SFR for what was happening in town: movies, events, arts, happenings and knowing about this place I call home. Thank goodness the folks at SFR have evolved by publishing online and sending daily news to my inbox. It is still my primary source of information about what’s happening in Santa Fe. And now my kids read it—how fun is that!

I’m eternally grateful for the Reporter’s coverage during difficult times and the focus on our local experiences. It makes more sense to read local news; that’s the world I’m interacting with, and it feels personal and essential. The mixture of serious news, good humor and coverage of many aspects of our lives here is invaluable: I almost always giggle when reading, and sometimes I cry.

Nowadays, as a local business owner, I rely on SFR to spread the word about my business; I trust its coverage and the respect the publication gives local companies. Learning about new food and drinks in town is a joy for me. I celebrate the success of local businesses, and because I’m often focused on my company, I need SFR to know what’s happening so I can feel this happiness.

As I’m bombarded with subscriptions and blocked articles around me, I have felt the value of free information slipping in our society. I’m reminded to value those places working to keep information available to everyone; SFR holds this center in its priorities. Thank goodness for this excellent work in our community.

I’m asking everyone who can to support this work. When we support those things close to us, we also affect those around us. I’m grateful for everyone who makes the Reporter happen in our lives!
