this left me speechless. it is in very poor taste and it is unacceptable! please retract and apologize to humanity.
"Rather than creating rifts, we hope to foster an honest discussion about different interpretations of culture and the imagery that accompanies it." Oh really? The Santa Fe Reporter made a huge mistake by being the ones who created another rift in Santa Fe. You would think they would of learn a lesson on what happened in 2002 at the International Folk Arts Museum in which a outsider insulted the same local people by protraying a religious icon as an art piece. The Santa Fe Reporter needs to apologize to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and the Catholic Faith. If not, I am not surprise if the same individuals who defended thier religion in 2002 will end up protesting the front doors of the Santa Fe Reporter. I don't think the Santa Fe Reporter truly understands on what "we hope this can contribute to greater mutual understanding and openness in our community" really means.
I am likewise speechless, the Santa Fe Reporter has no idea how to capture the essence of summer. What it does capture and prove is it's degraded sensibility. We as Catholics will not stand by and let you degrade our Holy Mother. The Santa Fe Reporter no longer has any honor, respect or values, and is out of touch with all that is holy and sacred.
Catholic Religion needs to apologize for so many crimes committed. Besides this is what idols really are demons disguised of saints.
I am Mexican and Catholic and see nothing wrong with the artistic representation on our cover. Do yourselves a favor and don't go near any any downtown-area gift shops where you can find the Virgen de Guadalupe's depiction on everything from boxer shorts to condom wrappers. And while you're all so high and mighty, let me throw a little something your way:
"Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?" (James 4:11-12)
HAve you been to church lately? Woman wearing High heels and Mini Skirts but are offended by this. Ha Ha
I just can't believe how incredibly stupid and insulting this ad is! Where you state "As a staff, we developed a concept we thought would offer a different take on the city's cultural and extracurricular landscape. Each image on the cover relates to an activity profiled in the story." How is the image of "Our Lady of Guadalupe" in a bikini showing our city's culture? What kind of message are you sending to our kids? What kind of message are you sending to the visitors? That we are some kind of disrepectful party town?Santa Fe is enriched with our beliefs and for you to totally degrade our beliefs and hertiage is just plain disrepectful. Wether you are Catholic or not... you can't miss the poor taste in the way you just displayed "Our Lady"... all I can say is SHAME ON YOU! and I will never pick up a Reporter again!
