If you live in Santa Fe, you’ve probably heard about Damian and Amy Herrera’s case.

Damian came to the US from Mexico in 2002, hoping to make enough money to send his younger brother and sister to school. Like so many others, he crossed the border, bypassing the legal ports of entry. Damian made a life in Santa Fe over the following two decades, always planning on working on the citizenship.

But as often happens in immigration cases, things got complicated quickly.
