New Mexico COVID-19 Cases: 8,940

State reports 272 new cases over the weekend and nine more deaths

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials announced 272 new positive COVID-19 test results—129 on Saturday and 143 on Sunday—bringing the total number of cases here thus far to 8,940.

As of today, 177 people are hospitalized and the health department has designated 3,307 COVID-19 cases as recovered.*

McKinley and San Juan counties continue to have the highest number of cases, with 77 and 73, respectively, combined over the weekend. Doña Ana County had 38 new cases over the weekend; Bernalillo County had 32.

Santa Fe County now has six new cases: one on Saturday and five today.

The state also reported nine new deaths: five on Saturday and four on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 396. Five of the deaths took place in McKinley County, three in San Juan County and one in Bernalillo County.

  • A male in his 70s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 50s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

  • A male in his 80s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 80s from San Juan County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of Beehive Homes in Farmington.
  • A male in his 60s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

News releases over the weekend included the following corrections to statewide total case numbers.

Saturday: Previously reported numbers included one case in Santa Fe County that was not lab confirmed and two cases among individuals held by federal agencies at the Otero County Prison Facility that have been identified as duplicates and corrected. Previously reported numbers did not include two cases that were previously identified as not being lab confirmed but have since been determined to be lab confirmed and corrected:one in Bernalillo County; one in San Juan County.

Sunday: Previously reported numbers included two cases in Doña Ana County that have been determined to be out-of-state residents, and another in Doña Ana County that was determined to be a Bernalillo County resident. One previously reported case in San Juan County was determined to be a duplicate and has been removed. One case previously reported as a Bernalillo County resident has been correctly identified as a Sandoval County resident. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
