Your New Mexico Government

Episode 3: Fiscal Responsibility

New Mexico in Focus Correspondent Gwyneth Doland spent the day in Santa Fe, talking with lawmakers about fiscal responsibility when it comes to making budget decisions during the current 30-day session. Lawmakers have roughly $800 million in new money to spend this year, and there's a push and pull between how to spend those dollars, especially on recurring expenses. Gwyneth also lays out some of the politics at play between the Legislature and Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the debate this year over legalizing recreational cannabis.

This podcast is a journalistic endeavor, covering the New Mexico government. Our goal is to hold elected officials accountable, increase awareness and make the inner workings of state government more accessible to all New Mexicans.
