New Mexico Reports 285 New Cases and Nine More Deaths

Santa Fe County had 17 new cases, with 87507 ZIP ranking in the top 10 statewide again for new cases

New Mexico health officials today reported 285 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 199,333. The health department has designated 184,263 of those cases as recovered.

Bernalillo County had 80 new cases, followed by San Juan County with 55 and Doña Ana County with 19. Santa Fe County had 17 new cases. Seven of Santa Fe County’s new cases were in the 87507 ZIP code, which ranked eighth in the state today for the most new cases.

The state also announced nine additional deaths. Earlier this week, Human Services Secretary Dr. David Scrase said the Office of the Medical Investigator has been working through a backlog of cases and COVID-19 deaths reported now may, in fact, be months old. There have now been 4,098 total fatalities.

As of today, 145 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.*

Currently, 59.4% of New Mexicans have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 47.1% are fully vaccinated. In Santa Fe County, 69.2% have had at least one dose and 50.1 % are fully inoculated. McKinley County leads the state with 63.6% of its residents fully vaccinated.

Earlier this week, Health Secretary Dr. Tracie Collins said DOH would be focusing vaccination efforts on youth. Currently, 30.8% of 16 to 17-year-olds have had at least one dose; 9.1% are fully vaccinated. On the other end of the spectrum, in Roosevelt County, 23.4% of residents have been fully vaccinated.

  • A female in her 90s from Grant County who was hospitalized
  • A male in his 50s from Lea County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions
  • A male in his 50s from Luna County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions
  • A female in her 80s from McKinley County who had underlying conditions
  • A male in his 40s from Sandoval County who had underlying conditions
  • A female in her 90s from Sandoval County who was a resident of The Retreat Healthcare facility in Rio Rancho

Statewide cases

According to a health department news release, previously reported numbers included two cases that have been identified as duplicates (one in Bernalillo County and one in Rio Arriba County); three cases that were not lab-confirmed (one in Bernalillo County, one in Cibola County and one in Sierra County); and one in Bernalillo County that has been determined to be an out-of-state resident—these have now been corrected. In addition, one case previously reported in Bernalillo County has been determined to be among state inmates at the Lea County Correctional Facility and is now reported as such. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
