New Mexico health officials today reported 628 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total to 164,263, of which the health department has designated 87,502 as recovered.

No additional close contacts outside of the household have been identified thus far.
While this new variant, which first emerged in the United Kingdom, does not appear to cause more severe illness, it does appear to be more transmissible.
