New Mexico health officials today reported 1,201 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 148,499. Of those, the health department has designated 70,737 as recovered.

Today's new case count, though 28% higher than yesterday, aligns with Los Alamos National Laboratory's forecasting for the middle-case scenario. A modeling report published today predicts cases may range between 400 and 1,500 over the next few weeks.

Bernalillo County had 484 new cases, followed by Doña Ana County with 117 and San Juan County with 104. Santa Fe County had 37 new cases.

The accompanying epidemiology report for today, along with the state's gating criteria website, shows an effective rate of transmission statewide at 1.0 (below the 1.05 statewide gating criteria in place prior to the current county-level restrictions).

The state also announced 20 additional deaths, including a woman in her 90s from Santa Fe County who was a resident of the Vista Hermosa facility in Santa Fe.; there have now been 2,594 fatalities statewide. Today's number of deaths also lines up with LANL's forecasting for daily deaths, expected to range between 11 and 26 per day over the next few weeks.
