New Mexico Adds Record 1,141 New COVID-19 Cases and Reports Nine More Deaths

Santa Fe County also had a record 97 new cases in one day

As New Mexicans turned out for what could end up being record-high participation on Election Day, the state hit a much grimmer record with a new high for daily COVID-19 cases: 1,141.

Doña Ana County led the state with new cases: 270, followed closely by Bernalillo County with 262 and 108 new cases in Chaves County. Santa Fe County had the fourth highest number of new cases: 97 of them, a new record here.

The state also announced nine additional deaths from eight counties, including a woman in her 90s from Santa Fe County and a woman in her 30s from Otero County; there have now been 1,045 fatalities.

As of today, 401 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, 19 more than yesterday and also a record high.* According to a news release, as of today, 76% of general beds and 67% of ICU beds across New Mexico hospitals are occupied at New Mexico hospitals with COVID and non-COVID patients.

The state environment department earlier this afternoon released its current list of the 117 businesses and organizations on the newly created "watchlist" for having more than two rapid responses within a 14-day period. That list includes six Santa Fe establishments: Cafe Fina; the state Department of Transportation at 7315 Cerrillos Road; Smith's at 2308 Cerrillos Road; and the State Employees Credit Union at 813 St. Michael's Drive each have had two rapid responses.

Netflix' production of The Harder They Fall, filming on the Midtown campus, has had three; and Chaparral Materials at 5946 Agua Fria Street has had five. Under new state rules, businesses with four or more rapid responses within a 14-day period face a 14-day closure, however no businesses are listed by the state as having been closed as of yet. SFR has an inquiry into the environment department regarding the protocol.
