NM Reports 200 New COVID-19 Cases, Three Deaths

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham adds Colorado, Oregon and Rhode Island to states requiring visitor quarantine

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham today added Colorado, Oregon and Rhode Island to the list of high-risk states for visitors. Per an executive order, anyone arriving from states designated as high-risk must quarantine for a period of 14 days or for the duration of their stay in the state of New Mexico, whichever is shorter.

High-risk is characterized as having a 5% positivity rate or greater over a 7-day rolling average, or a positive test rate greater than 80 per 1 million residents.

Visitors from such states (the complete list is here and is updated weekly) must physically separate from others in a residence or place of lodging for at least 14 days. Anyone with documentation of a negative COVID-19 test taken within the 72 hours before or after entering New Mexico is exempt from quarantine.

Michigan and Hawaii moved from high-risk to low-risk today, according to the rolling positivity and test rates of those states.

Here in New Mexico, health officials today reported 200 new positive test results for COVID-19, bringing the statewide total thus far to 27,987. The health department has designated 15,669 of those cases as recovered.

Today's higher case count follows health officials' discussion yesterday of the rising rate of infection across the state.  The current rate statewide is 1.11; the target is 1.05 or less.

Doña Ana County led with 33 new cases today, followed by Bernalillo County with 28 and Chaves and Eddy counties each with 22. The New Mexico Corrections Department reported 11 new cases at the Lea County Correctional Facility. Santa Fe County had one new case today. However, cases have been rising across all the state's public health regions over the last two weeks.

The state also announced three additional deaths from Doña Ana, Lea and McKinley counties; there have now been 857 fatalities.

The Public Education Department today reported six new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours at public schools in Bernalillo, Chaves, Doña Ana and Sandoval counties involving four staff members and two students.

As of today, 72 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.*
