New Mexico COVID-19 Cases: 19,042

Health officials report 590 new cases over the weekend and 13 more deaths

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported 590 new positive test cases for COVID-19: 324 on Saturday and 266 on Sunday. The new cases bring the statewide total to 19,042 so far, with 7,349 designated as recovered by the health department.

Bernalillo County added 184 cases over the weekend, followed by Doña Ana County with 90 and Lea County with 46 more cases. Santa Fe County had 24 new cases over the weekend: nine on Saturday and 15 on Sunday; there have been 497 cases here so far, 203 of which have been designated as recovered by the health department.

The weekend's new cases also included 10 new cases among people being held by the US Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Otero County Processing Center, one new case among people being held by federal authorities at the Otero County Prison facility and three new cases among people being held in federal custody at the Cibola County Correctional Center.

The state also announced 13 new deaths—six on Saturday and seven on Sunday—from Bernalillo, McKinley, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Juan and Valencia counties There have been 614 fatalities.

As of today, 144 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.*

  • A second female in her 80s from Bernalillo County who was a resident of the Princeton Place facility in Albuquerque and had underlying conditions
  • A female in her 60s from McKinley County who had underlying conditions
  • A male in his 70s from Rio Arriba County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions
  • A male in his 80s from Sandoval County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions
  • A female in her 60s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions

Over the weekend, state news releases reported the following corrections and adjustments to statewide total case numbers:

Saturday: Previously reported numbers included two cases that were duplicates: one case in Rio Arriba County and one in San Juan County. Four cases were not lab confirmed: one in Bernalillo County, one in Doña County, one in Lea County, and one case in Valencia County. Five cases have been identified as out-of-state residents: one in Bernalillo County, one in Chaves County, one in Doña County and two cases in Grant County.

Sunday: Previously reported numbers included four cases that were duplicates: one case in Bernalillo County, one case in Doña Ana County, one case in McKinley County and one case in Valencia County. Two cases were not lab confirmed: one case in Guadalupe County and one in Lincoln County. Seven cases have been identified as out-of-state residents: three cases in Bernalillo County, three cases in Doña Ana County and one case Lea County. Previously reported numbers did not include one case that was thought to be an out-of-state resident that has since been determined to be a New Mexico resident and has been added to San Juan County.
