New Mexico COVID-19 Cases: 7,689

Health officials report 203 new cases over the weekend and 12 more deaths

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials announced 203 new positive results for COVID-19: 134 on Saturday and 69 on Sunday. Figures for Sunday, however, are partial due to a "technical delay," according to a news release. The delayed results will be included either tomorrow or as soon as they are received and lab-confirmed.

Hard-hit McKinley County had a total of 69 new cases over the weekend, followed by San Juan County with 42 new cases. At the Otero County Prison Facility, cases grew by 11 cases; between people being held by federal agencies and the New Mexico Corrections Department, there are now 112 cases at that facility.

Santa Fe County also had a small uptick in cases, with three new ones on Saturday and two new ones on Sunday.

The statewide total thus far is now 7,689.

As of today, 182 people are hospitalized and the health department has designated 2,853 cases as recovered.

The state also reported 12 more deaths, seven on Saturday and five on Sunday, bringing the total number of fatalities to 356. Those deaths were equally split between McKinley and San Juan counties.

  • A male in his 70s from McKinley County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.
  • A female in her 70s from San Juan County who was hospitalized.
  • A male in his 40s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

  • A male in his 90s from San Juan County. The individual had underlying conditions and was a resident of Life Care Center of Farmington.
  • A second male in his 90s from San Juan County. The individual had underlying conditions and was a resident of Life Care Center of Farmington.

Statewide cases

News releases over the weekend corrected previous errors in the statewide total of cases. On Saturday, the health department said reported numbers included one case that was identified as a duplicate in Curry County; one case that has been determined to be an out-of-state resident in Sandoval County; one case that has been added to the Torrance County Detention Facility; and one case in Valencia County that was not lab confirmed. Sunday's adjustments included two cases that were identified as duplicates (one in McKinley County, one in San Juan County); one case that has been determined to be an out-of-state resident in McKinley County; and one case in Taos County that was not lab confirmed.

County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.
