New Mexico COVID-19 Cases: 5,938

Health officials report 287 new cases over the weekend and 12 more deaths

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported a total of 287 new positive tests for COVID-19, 190 on Saturday and 97 on Sunday. However, Sunday's figures are incomplete due to ongoing reporting delays from some private labs to the state Department of Health. The delayed results will be included in the state's reporting Monday, May 18, or as soon as they are received and lab-confirmed. The new numbers bring the total statewide cases to 5,938.

Hard-hit McKinley County had 101 new positives over the weekend, followed by 74 in San Juan County.

Santa Fe County had eight new positive cases on Saturday and one on Sunday, with Saturday representing the highest number of reported cases in a single day for the county.

The state also announced 12 new deaths over the weekend, bringing the state total fatality number to 265. Of the new fatalities, seven were in McKinley County and included a 20-year-old male who was neither hospitalized nor living with underlying conditions. Five of the people who died in McKinley County were residents of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.

As of today, 211 people are hospitalized. * The health department has designated 1,755 COVID-19 cases as recovered.

  • A male in his 70s from McKinley County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.
  • A male in his 80s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions. 
  • A female in her 80s from Sandoval County who had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.
  • A female in her 50s from San Juan County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

  • A female in her 90s from McKinley County who was hospitalized, had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.
  • A male in his 50s from Sandoval County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
  • A male in his 80s from San Juan County who was hospitalized.

Per the health department, the following errors have been corrected for statewide totals: Three cases that were previously reported in Doña Ana County that were out-of-state residents; two cases in San Juan County that were out-of-state residents; two cases identified as duplicates, one in Doña Ana County and one in Taos County; one duplicate in San Juan County; three cases that were not lab confirmed: one in Bernalillo County, one in San Juan County, and one in Otero County.
