New Mexico COVID-19 Cases: 4,863

Over the weekend, 19 more people died, bringing statewide fatalities to 200

Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials announced a total of 192 new positive COVID-19 test results, 105 on Saturday and 87 on Sunday. The statewide total is now 4,863.

However, a recurring technical delay affects Sunday's figures, which are only partial; the delayed results will be included in the state's reporting tomorrow or as soon as they are received and lab-confirmed.

In the northwest region, McKinley and San Juan counties continue to have the most new cases, 62 and 46, respectively. However, Doña Ana County accounted for 27 new cases over the weekend, following state modeling last week that indicated concern about growth in the southwestern region of New Mexico. Bernalillo County, another area of concern in the state's designated metro area, had 43 new cases.

The state also reported 19 new deaths, 10 on Saturday and nine on Sunday. Of those, 10 were in McKinley County and six were in San Juan County. Ten of the deceased were residents in a congregate living facility. The health department has now identified cases in 29 such facilities across the state. There have now been 200 deaths related to the virus.

Officials also reported over the weekend that 19 people being held at the federal Otero County Processing Center run by ICE in Otero County tested positive for COVID-19. According to a news release, the state will now report these cases separately. Previously, those cases were accounted for within the total case counts for Otero and Doña Ana counties, "due to a reporting error."

As of today, 194 people are hospitalized*. The health department has designated 1,285 cases as recovered.
