New Mexico Health officials on Friday reported 115 new positive tests for COVID-19 throughout the state. Bernalillo County had the most, with 24 new cases; San Juan County followed with 14. The total number of cases is now 1,711.

The state also announced seven new deaths, bringing the state's total number of fatalities to 51. Fatalities also are striking the hardest in both counties by far. So far, there have been 51 deaths statewide across seven counties. Of those, 22 have been in Bernalillo and 14 in San Juan. Sandoval County has had six and McKinley has had four, according to the state's COVID-19 database.

The hardest hit areas all encompass portions of either the Navajo Nation or the state's pueblos. According to health department data, Native Americans have been disproportionately hurt by the virus, accounting for 36.98 % of the cases.

As of today, 96 people have been hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19. * The health department has designated 382 COVID-19 cases as recovered.
The state’s new data site also now includes the capacity to search for cases by zip code. In Santa Fe County, 56 of the 80 cases are present in the general urban area, with the bulk of those starting in the middle and stretching to the southern part of the city:

  • A male in his 70s from Bernalillo County. The individual had underlying medical conditions and was a resident of the La Vida Llena facility in Albuquerque.
  • A female in her 80s from Bernalillo County. The individual was hospitalized and had underlying medical conditions.
  • A second female in her 80s from Bernalillo County. The individual had underlying medical conditions.
  • A female in her 90s from Bernalillo County. The individual had underlying medical conditions and was a resident of the La Vida Llena facility in Albuquerque.
  • A female in her 50s from Sandoval County.
  • A male in his 80s from San Juan County. The individual was hospitalized.
  • A male in his 40s from Socorro County. The individual was hospitalized and had underlying medical conditions.

Statewide totals

According to a state news release, the case numbers reported previously included one case from Bernalillo County that was not lab confirmed, and the error has been corrected. Including the above newly reported cases, New Mexico has now had a total of 1,711 positive tests for COVID-19. County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency.
The Department of Health has detected community spread in Bernalillo, Doña Ana, McKinley, Otero, Sandoval, San Juan, and Santa Fe counties and is investigating cases with no known exposure.
