Bringing Home Wordplay

MIX Madlibs to the mayor ask for attention to economic development and community

Maybe it was the perfect noun for one of the blank spaces.

Or perhaps bringing home the bacon is just on everyone's mind.

When organizers of the MIX networking meeting this spring, dubbed "Mix Madness," asked attendees to create Madlibs-style letters to Mayor Alan Webber, three of four winning compositions chose to complete the sentence "Best wishes to you in bringing home the ______ for Santa Fe's ________ " using the word bacon.

Two writers used bacon as the noun, one saying we need it for Santa Fe’s coffers and others for its fabulousness. John Brambl, the first-prize winner, used all-Spanish vocabulary and still picked bacon, using “tocino.”  The last winner wants the mayor to bring home equity for the city’s future.

MIX volunteer Micayla Duran says she and other event planners decided on Madlibs for the quarterly networking event as a way to let the mayor hear from voters.

"We knew that we couldn't just ask people questions and expect them to sit down at a fun event and write their deepest thoughts," she says, noting that the collection of Madlibs will be delivered to City Hall soonWebber made an appearance at the event, as did Kate Noble, who also ran for mayor and who helped found MIX during her time as a city employee.

MIX events typically involve an exchange of survey data for a drink ticket for attendees and happen at in a rotating slate of cooperating businesses. Sometimes, as in this case, participants earn prizes. Read the survey details here. Winning Madlibbers got $50 and $25. The next free networking event is planned for May 19 at Tumbleroot Brewery.

Other highlights from the letters to Webber include:

“I’m certain our top priority should be activating the people.”

“The quality of life here is sketchy.”

“If you can pump the economy We can see some big gains.”

“Keep in mind the real needs of the community.”

“I’d also love for you to escuches to the diversidad de public opiniones.”

“Everyone love a mayor in: bolo ties, puma pants, bikinis

“I’m certain our top priority should be amping the economy.
