Aztec Lawmaker Responds to School Shooting

State Sen. Steven Neville says the shooting comes as a shock

At the Capitol on Thursday morning, State Sen. Steven Neville and Rep. Rod Montoya were standing in an empty office behind the Legislative Finance Committee hearing. Neither seemed certain what to do.

"The only advantage we have over anyone else right now is knowing who to call," Neville told SFR. "But of course they're all busy."

The pair of Four Corners Republicans had already made most of those calls, inquiring after the shooting at Aztec High School that killed two students and the shooter. An ER nurse told Montoya that reports of a dozen injuries didn't seem to be founded.

Both planned to continue their calls. State Police planned a news conference Thursday afternoon. Neville took a couple of minutes to share his thoughts.
