Under the direction of Game of Thrones mastermind, Santa Fean George RR Martin, the newly revamped Jean Cocteau Cinema is set to open Friday, Aug. 9—one week ahead of schedule.
Cinema manager Jon Bowman tells SFR movies will be free at the single-screen theater for its first seven days.
Line-up includes daily screenings of 1956's Forbidden Planet—which GRRM's wife Parris refers to as the author's "most favorite movie of his entire life"; Orpheus, the central part of Cocteau's Orphic Trilogy; and midnight screenings of comedic sci-fi flick Dark Star on Friday and Saturday.
Bowman says the Cocteau's official run starts on Friday the 16th with Europa Report, Shouting Secrets and Rapturepalooza.
"Bound and determined" to bring the legendary popcorn back to life, Martin said he hoped to pick up some SFR love with his newest venture last April.
"The Jean Cocteau, for seven years in a row, won Best of Santa Fe. I would like to start winning that award again."
