Santa Fe
Weaned on post-theories (modernism, irony, narrative, colonial), culture manager and writer Rani Molla is still unsure of the literary ploy that got her to Santa Fe. She knows she grew up in the East on Long Island, was schooled in the Midwest at Oberlin and by some act of happenstance currently finds herself employed in the Southwest. When she's not correcting misplaced modifiers, she's out and about downtown, usually trailed by loud music.

HBO film takes politics back in time

by Rani Molla

In a sight for sore liberal eyes, the McCain/Palin campaign took over Cathedral Park Monday, June 13. Actually a plumped-up Ed Harris (as John McCain) led a rally there for HBO film Game Change about the ill-fated 2008 Republican campaign.

Giving Back the Music

A fire destroyed the home of Cara Levick and Paul Feathericci, the latter better known as DJ Feathericci, Friday, June 3. Both were unharmed but they lost their two dogs. Santa Fe is chipping in this Saturday at Corazón with a show to benefit a DJ who has frequently played for the benefits of others.

How's the Water

Interdisciplinary art event focuses on the Santa Fe River.

by Rani Molla
Two young fish run into an older fish who asks, “How’s the water?” The young fish continue on and one says to the other, “What the hell is water?” The point of this parable is that sometimes the most obvious things are the most difficult to understand. The parable fittingly forms the basis and title of an interdisciplinary art event this weekend geared at the Santa Fe River: How’s the Water.

Lonesome George

by Rani Molla

This week's news cycle sang the sad song of Lonesome George, the 100-year-old Galápagos tortoise who can't find a mate since he's the last of his species (due to overfeeding, he wasn't very lusty with substitute turtles either). If you thought turtles' situations—from from poaching to pollution—couldn't get any worse, check out this week's Eyedropper.
