DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:<p>Everyone knows Dave Brubeck’s biggest hit, “Take Five,” even though it came out the same year that Alaska became a state (1959), and was actually written by Brubeck’s alto player (Paul Desmond). However, there’s a lot more than odd time meters and catchy chord changes to the pianist’s musical legacy. Brubeck, who died in December 2012, was an innovator of jazz technique and composition. His classic quartet is honored by Bert Dalton, a lifelong fan of Brubeck’s music and an accomplished, versatile player himself. He’s joined by Dave Anderson (alto), Rob “Milo” Jaramillo (bass) and John Bartlit (drums). Those interested in history can also participate in a docent tour of the the Scottish Rite Temple.
