A La Vai!
In the pantheon of guitar greats, there’s plenty of stiff competition. Shredders like Jason Becker, Marty Friedman or even Buckethead capture the hearts of metal-heads and music aficionados around the globe with lightning-fast fingers and mind-blowing compostitions. But still, there is perhaps no name more synonymous with phenomenal, fret-defying finger work than Steve Vai. Whether it’s his collaborations with Frank Zappa, guitar-centric supergroup G3 or solo, Vai is the preeminent slayer of a generation, and he’s coming to Santa Fe to support his newest solo release, The Story of Light. The album follows in the footsteps of 2005’s conceptual Real Illusions and waxes philosophical on the concepts of loss, enlightenment and ultimately redemption. On Light, Vai blends stunning technique and utter passion to create songs that are every bit as beautiful as they are rockin’. Miss this? Don’t be silly. (Alex De Vore)
