Normally, the idea of hotel lobby jazz guitar noodling would sound like hell on earth, but there are extenuating circumstances at play here. First off, La Posada is awesome; the type of place where you can pick up a Hendricks cocktail without the fear of running into whosoever you may be successfully avoiding. It’s the kind of place where marriages take place and lives begin. It’s the kind of place where guitar master Pat Malone plays so beautifully that you look at your own hands in utter disappointment, shake your head sadly and shout, “Do something with yourselves, dammit!” Excellent British pub similarities aside, you could do a whole hell of a lot worse than a night of jazz in a room with Malone and his rotating cast of special guest musicians nailing standards, free-form tunes and originals with gusto.
