Beyond Buckskin POP-UP Shop and Book Launch

Noon-4 pm, Mar 24, 2013 | free

On March 24, the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts store offers a new kind of Native American fashion show by transforming into a Beyond Buckskin pop-up shop. Beyond Buckskin is an online collective of forward-thinking Native American fashion designers [Arts Valve, Nov. 14, 2012: “First [Appropriation] Nation”]. Founded just a few years ago, BB has gained rapid popularity as an increasing number of Native designers add material to the website. The work ranges from couture to street wear. Last month, Buckskin officials selected the best work to be included in the Beyond Buckskin Lookbook, available at MoCNA. And don’t let the moniker scare you. Though BB’s designers challenge expectations, their catalogue promises Native-made fashion “as it has never been seen before.” (Tor Travis)
