In The Time of The Butterflies

7:30 pm, Mar 08, 2013 | $15; $12 seniors/students

During Rafael Trujillo‚Äôs dictatorship in the Dominican Republic (arguably one of the bloodiest reigns ever) three sisters became martyrs for the uprising that led to the ruler‚Äôs overthrow. The story of Patria, Minerva and Mar√≠a Teresa Mirabal‚ÄĒfrom their well-educated upbringing to their revolutionary aspirations‚ÄĒhas been well documented, and now, a play by Caridad Svich brings their plight to the stage. Based on the historical novel by Julia √Ālvarez, the stage version of In the Time of the Butterflies is bound for New York, but lucky Santa Feans can catch a production workshop here. Proceeds from the Saturday performance benefit the Esperanza Shelter and, just as importantly, the play itself takes a relevant stand for nonviolent peace revolutions.

The Tempest

Friday, Jul 10, 2015
First of all, it is incredible how much Shakespeare we've been getting around here. Truly. Secondly, you'd be nuts to miss Santa Fe Shakespeare Society's production of The Tempest. Ship wrecks, sprites, weird-ass hunched over monster servants and love? It's a combo for success! We'd have made a Prospero joke here, but we're classy people and changed our minds.
