Santa Fe Greenhouses, Inc., a full-service retail greenhouse and tree nursery, is proud to announce its Spring Gardening Seminar Series, beginning Saturday, January 7, 2012, and concluding on Saturday, February 25, 2012. The eight-part seminar series entitled âWonderful and WaterwiseâCreating Your New Mexico Garden,â will focus on the best practices for gardening in New Mexico. Topics will include sustainable gardening, perennial plant favorites, rainwater harvesting, growing fruits and berries and container gardening.
The speakers are renowned experts in their fields, and all share a passion for gardening in the desert southwest.
January 7, 2012 @ 2 pm SUSTAINABLE WATERWISE DESIGN Learn the key elements of landscape design from a New Mexico xeriscaping expert. Hunter will take you on a tour of projects that illustrate the principles used to create sustainable, colorful waterwise landscapes. Presented by Hunter Ten Broeck; founder of Waterwise Landscapes Inc, designing colorful water efficient landscapes in New Mexico for over 20 years.
January 14, 2012 @ 2pm IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE? (Book signing after the talk.) Yes! The Dirt Doctor is âin.â Enjoy this educational seminar filled with concepts, techniques and soil building ingredients that help New Mexico gardeners be successful in our high, dry climate. Howard Garret is a landscape architect by training and devoted his life to establishing a leadership role in the natural organic marketplace providing advice on natural organic gardening, landscaping, pet health, pest control and natural living. January 21, 2012 @ 2pm Growing Culinary Herbs Year-round (Book signing after the talk.) Join us for a fun, information presentation as Tammi shares her expertise on organic gardening and growing herbs year-round, indoors and in the garden. From start to finish, her talk will cover growing and harvesting herbs organically. Sheâll also share some of her favorite recipes for your herb harvest. Presented by Tammi Hartung who brings over 30 years of passion for growing and using herbs. She is the author of Homegrown Herbs and co-owner of Desert Canyon Farm, a certified organic farm in southern Colorado. Book signing after the talk.
January 28, 2012 @ 2pm Davidâs Perennial Favorites-New and Tried and True This visual buffet will highlight High Country Gardensâ newest and best plants for the water-wise garden. David will take you on a colorful tour of the most exciting perennials, ornamental grasses, groundcovers and other plants for your New Mexico xeriscape. Many were developed right here in Santa Fe and are only available from us. Just a few of the new for Spring 2012 plants include three of our 2012 Green Thumb Award winners: Brakelights- Red Yucca, âFire Spinnerâ Ice Plant and the Harvest Booster Perennial Collection. Presented by David Salman, President and Chief Horticulturist for Santa Fe Greenhouses/High country Gardens.

Participate in this inspirational lecture that will make you a true believer in the regenerative power of harvesting rain -- it will show you how. Nate Downey will stress the gains of green gardening, such as beauty, shade, privacy and wind protection and focus on the joys gardening gives families, friends and neighbors. Nate Downey, author of Harvest the Rain (Sunstone Press, 2010), is president of Santa Fe Permaculture, an ecological landscaping firm he founded in 1992, and has written a monthly column called âPermaculture in Practiceâ for the Santa Fe New Mexican since 1998.

Our own staff Arborists and horticulturists will share their knowledge and experiences to help you make the most of your home fruit growing efforts.
