Santa Fe Independent Film Festival

by Ramón A Lovato
assorted times, Oct 20, 2010 | $6 per film

Life in the movie industry is a never-ending rush of film premieres, star-worship and after-parties. But this isn’t Hollywood and, whether or not you’re part of the biz, you can enjoy all the cinematic stylings at the second Santa Fe Independent Film Festival.

According to co-founding directors Jacques Paisner and David Moore, this year’s festival offers 80 films (more than three times last year’s number), 40 world premiers, directorial speakers, visiting filmmakers from as far away as Italy and after-parties every night.

“Santa Fe is a big art town…it should have a huge platform for film. Film is the art form of our age,” Moore says. “We tilt an eye to guerilla cinema and edgy stuff,” he adds, referring to films such as a documentary about the struggle of women to become catholic priests and Salt of the Earth, whose tagline is “the only blacklisted American film.”

Remembering Ethaan

Saturday, May 26, 2012

Warehouse 21 holds a memorial/benefit concert for Ethaan Boyer, a local artist who was killed in his home in February. Mostly a metal affair, the show features Drought, As In We, Soul to Rest, Grinkai and Torn Between Worlds totally shred in honor of one of Santa Fe’s most treasured fallen comrades. All proceeds go to the Ethaan Boyer Memorial Fund and the teen arts center’s silkscreen studio—an artistic space that was reportedly very near and dear to Boyer’s heart. Though Ethaan has left a void within Santa Fe’s arts community that may take a long time to heal, we salute W21 (and the stellar lineup) for providing our fair city with such a joyous means to celebrate a life cut tragically short.

Open Mic Night

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

Open Mic Night is for kids—not kids and weirdos. We’d also like to mention that even though local musician Alix Monasterio is deluded into thinking Audioslave is better than Nirvana (there is no fucking way that’s true), you shouldn’t hold it against him, or this event
