Wednesdays in the Railyard aren’t exactly thebusiest night of the week. I almost expect the proverbial tumbleweed to blow across Montezuma as I walk toward the New Mexico Film Museum—formerly known as the Jean Cocteau Theater. Once inside, the tiny lobby holds six people, which fills it just about to capacity.

Carolyn Fairman has been executive director of Coffee Kids since 2006. Founded in 1988, the Santa Fe-based nonprofit Coffee Kids works with nonprofits in Central and South America to fund projects such as school improvements, community gardens and health clinics for coffee-dependent families.
 

In May 1984, John Allen was ready to launch plans for the project that had become his life’s work. Biosphere 2 had been developing in his brain since the early 1960s—at least philosophically. What Allen wanted to design was an experimental structure that put to use the total systems approach to society, ecology and his own life.

Carrie Haag, a licensed clinical social worker and certified Imago therapist, and her partner Cat Scheibner, a certified Imago educator, have been together for more than two decades. They run workshops through the Santa Fe Center for Relationships for straight as well as gay and lesbian couples. Haag talks with SFR about the value of helping people work it out.

In The Mercy Papers: A Memoir of Three Weeks, author Robin Romm has opened herself to the world in a courageous little book that chronicles the three weeks before her mother Jackie’s death. Romm tells stories of her childhood and young adulthood but manages to avoid the sentimentality into which many memoirs can easily fall.
