Randy Grissom is the interim director of the Santa Fe Community College’s Sustainable Technologies Center. Last week, SFCC announced it had received a $100,000 grant from Los Alamos National Securities that will be used to support the center.
 

In 1918, Mose Iacino launched a family fish business in Colorado by bringing fresh seafood into Denver on railcars. The supply came from Seattle, Wash. and, in order to keep the catch fresh, new ice was added every time the train stopped on its multi-day journey.

Judy Goldberg is the executive director of the Youth Media Project, a program in Santa Fe high schools that teaches students about radio production. It airs at 7 pm every other Wednesday on KSFR 101.1 FM. Goldberg’s own radio show, Back Roads Radio, airs on KSFR at 1 pm every Sunday.

Bruce Bernstein has been executive director of the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) since December 2007, but has been associated with the Santa Fe Indian Market as a board member, judge and volunteer for 30 years.

While “Darfur” has become a buzzword in current talks of genocide and human rights, few people truly understand the roots of the conflict in Sudan. Even fewer have seen it firsthand. Santa Fe photojournalist Lucian Niemeyer is one of the few. He has made a career of documenting foreign cultures and creating awareness for the suffering, travelling to Sudan in 2006 to visit both the wealthier North and the persecuted South.

Violanda Nuñez founded Ayudantes in 1979 with two fellow social workers. Ayudantes (Spanish for “helpers”) provides low-cost mental health and addiction rehabilitation services in Santa Fe, Española and Las Vegas.

Linda Durham, owner of Linda Durham Contemporary Art, traveled to the Gaza Strip in March to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8, 2009) with Code Pink, an international organization of women for peace.
