Several die-hard fans threw their hands up and cheered last night as local heavy weights As In We kicked off their set with “Knock of the Hidden Hand” from their 2013 album As Above So Below.
The group is known for their electric stage presence and this performance was no exception as drummer Ben Durfee delivered some hard-hitting rhythm and stylish stick-spins to the ecstatic Wednesday-night crowd. Toward the end of their set, guitarist Haven Willis announced soon-to-be-mayor Javier Gonzales’ win. The crowd responded with mixed applause.
The night began with a debut performance by GRYGRDNS, a new project from As In We guitarist Eliza Lutz and Evarusnik’s Miranda Scott. Also on the roster was Albuquerque’s Sputniq, letting rip a fun mix of math-rock tap guitar and punk-inspired vocals.
Hailing from Los Angeles, duo-group 100 Onces graced Santa Fe as their first stop on tour towards Austin’s SXSW. The group has quite a week ahead of them, with performances in several major Texas cities before playing multiple shows at the famed music fest.
100 onces is no stranger to life on the road; they’ve already logged four West Coast tours and one in the United Kingdom.
Their hard-hitting instrumentals fit the bill perfectly, although, according to guitarist Barrett Tuttobene, this stop in New Mexico might be their last. He got a speeding ticket on I-40 which he expects—perhaps tongue-in-check–never to pay.
