Gonzales: It is in the bag

Candidate leads the pack on mayoral election

As of 8:36 pm SFR can clearly say Javier Gonzales will be Santa Fe's next mayor.

According to Gonzales poll watchers, the unofficial tally so far has Gonzales leading by 41.6 percent of the vote, followed by Bill Dimas in second with 31.1 percent and Patti Bushee at third with 27.2 percent.

Yolanda Vigil is still reading the results at City Hall, but Gonzales, who is having a celebration tonight at the Hotel Santa Fe is claiming victory on Twitter.

UPDATE 10 pm: Preliminary numbers show Gonzales leading with 43.31% of votes, Bushee in second with 28.7% and Dimas a close third with 28%. Over 17,000 people voted, making voter turnout 28%

UPDATE 12 am: Gonzales' triumphant tweet appears to have been deleted from his official Twitter account.
