Dozens of people gathered outside the Roundhouse Friday afternoon in Santa Fe as part of the global One Billion Rising movement.
The organizers say this year's One Billion Rising is "a global call to women survivors of violence and those who love them to gather safely in community outside places where they are entitled to justice – courthouses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, homes, or simply public gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not."
Groups supporting women's rights, social justice, environmental justice, LGBT rights and many other issues spoke as part of the rally.
The day is described as a day of action and dancing. In Santa Fe, many participated in a flash mob, which you can see below.
Santa Fe city Councilor Patti Bushee read a proclamation from the city of Santa Fe on One Billion Rising, and she wasn't the only politician in the audience. State Senator Howie Morales, D-Silver City, and State Representative Brian Egolf, D-Santa Fe, addressed the crowd.
