Eight City Candidate Forums To Be Held Next Month

The start of the New Year promises to be heavy on civic activities

Come the New Year, Santa Fe residents will get at least eight occasions to see city candidates introduce themselves to the public in anticipation of the March municipal elections.

The upcoming candidate forums are being separately sponsored by the Santa Fe Neighborhood Network, ProgressNow New Mexico and the Democratic Party of Santa Fe County.---

Each forum will occur during the following dates and times:

—Monday, Jan. 6: Santa Fe's mayoral candidates will make remarks and take questions at a Neighborhood Network forum held at Christus St. Vincent's Southwest Conference Room, 465 St. Michael's Dr. from 7:30-9:30pm.

—Tuesday, Jan. 7: City Council candidates in District 1, representing part of the downtown area and its north-side surroundings, will duke it out in a Democratic Party of Santa Fe County forum held at the Center for Progress and Justice at 1420 Cerrillos Rd. from 6-7:30pm.

—Thursday, Jan. 9: City Council candidates for District 3, which represents the southwest side of Santa Fe, will participate in a Democratic Party of Santa Fe forum held at the Center for Progress and Justice from 6-7:30pm.

—Monday, Jan. 13: Contenders for City Council in Districts 2 and 4 will present themselves and take questions in another Neighborhood Network-sponsored forum held at Christus St. Vincent's Southwest Conference Room from 7:30-9:30pm. Since District 4 has only the unopposed Ron Trujillo running for reelection, we hope he will present last.

—Monday, Jan. 13: ProgressNow NM holds a mayoral debate held in the Fogelson Library complex at 1600 St. Michael's Dr. The forum will be held from 6:30-8pm. SFR editor Julie Ann Grimm and former editor Julia Goldberg will ask the questions.

—Tuesday, Jan. 14: City Council candidates in District 2 will square off in a Democratic Party of Santa Fe County forum at the Center for Progress and Justice beginning at 6pm.

—Wednesday, Jan. 15: Mayoral contenders will participate in a Democratic Party of Santa Fe County forum at the Center for Progress and Justice beginning at 6pm.

—Monday, Jan. 20: City council candidates in Districts 1 and 3 will present their platforms and take questions in a Neighborhood Network-sponsored forum held at Christus St. Vincent's Southwest Conference Room from 7:30-9:30pm.
