The Santa Fe Police Department is investigating the "suspicious" death of a 57-year-old man whose body was found face down inside a tent on the 2700 block of Sawmill Road.

"Officers observed the deceased had small lacerations on his hands and head consistent with possible involvement in a recent physical fight," SFPD spokeswoman Celina Westervelt writes. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow morning, say police.

A man in his 30s called police to report the death at about 4:30 am on Oct. 26. Police say the caller—who said he's a friend of the deceased—is cooperating with police.

Police were looking for a man in his 40s known as "Country" on the morning of Oct. 26. They located him later in the day. He's cooperating with the investigation, police say.

"The area where the body was found is often inhabited by transients," Westervelt writes.

Police ask that anyone with information about the case call 505-428-3710.
