Locos on the Go Go

This is a blog on locomotives.

The first event is designed exclusively for winos. The Moonlight Wine Tasting on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a four-and-a-half-hour ride, 5-11:30 pm on Saturday, June 22. Cross state borders via the San Juan Mountains (from Chama, NM to Antonito, Colo.) while sipping fine wines. A pit stop in Osier at the dining hall, where a prime-rib and cod dinner is paired with—take a guess—wine. This train ride is organized by The Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad.

The second event is ongoing. A full schedule is available at cumbrestoltec.com. This is the run-of-the-mill train ride, operated by Cumbres and Toltec. Basically, it climbs up the Cumbres Pass (10,015 elevation), snakes through the Rocky Mountains and stops at the historic Osier Station for lunch.

June 21-23, a family outing is in store. This is the best train ride in the world because Thomas the Tank Engine is leading it. Part of the GO GO Thomas Tour, you can pre-order tix at ticketweb.com. Another kiddy-themed train tour is hosted by Cinder Bear (he's no Thomas the Tank Engine, but, whatever, it's a bear in overalls and a conductor hat).
