This week, State Fair Commissioner Charlotte Rode discusses the state's lucrative, controversial 25-year lease extension to the Downs at Albuquerque racetrack and casino in the State Fair.
Rode has been a vocal opponent of the deal, maintaining that it was done behind the scenes to favor politically-connected insiders. For an in-depth review of how the Downs deal went down, read SFR's cover story about from last August.
Rode also talks to hosts Matthew Reichbach and Joey Peters about her trouble to get public records related to the Downs deal. She's since filed an Inspection of Public Records lawsuit against Expo New Mexico, which runs the State Fair. She's also compiled her own report of the deal, made up mostly of leaked private emails between Downs lobbyists and top-level Martinez administration officials, to present to state legislators at the Roundhouse.
