Ore House at Milagro Shuts Doors

Restaurant, bar and music venue closes due to financial reasons

One of Santa Fe's liveliest nightspots (on some nights) ended its run in Santa Fe earlier this week.

Known for its lineup of dance DJs and live music, Milagro had become a staple for some local bar patrons and dancers since opening in 2009.

At the beginning of 2011, the bar and venue teamed up with The Ore House, a long-established Plaza Restaurant started in 1976. Both businesses were owned by John Beaupre.

As the Santa Fe New Mexican reported in 2011, the consolidation come about when the owner of the former Ore House property, Armand Ortega, decided to open up a restaurant of his own—today's Thunderbird Bar and Grill.

The merger did not prevent the ultimate downfall of both. Joe Ray Sandoval, who took over music booking for the venue in November 2012, expressed disappointment with the sudden decision in an email to SFR:

"The owners of the building made the decision to shut down the business for financial reasons. The staff at Milagro was nothing but hard working and professional and we finally turned the place around into a fun, safe place. Unfortunately, the owner of the business waited too long to let us do our thing and was too far behind on their payments.

"We had a good run there and now we move forward. Beginning this Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd of February, we will be rocking our parties at Stats nightclub. The Alchemy party with dynamite sol and myself will continue every Friday night at our new location as will the Saturday SoundClash party with DJ Poetics every Saturday night. Stats has opened their doors to us and we are looking forward to working with them."

Management for the Ore House at Milagro could not be reached for comment.

Additional details on the closure can be found in the ABQ Journal North and the Santa Fe New Mexican.
