A Week and a Day in Santa Fe

By Tess Cutler

We've got a couple city proclamations to discuss.

The first pertains to ARTSmart, that nonprofit which, since 1993, has contributed over a million buckaroos to art programs in public schools. Not only that, but ARTSmart officially has a week, ordained by the Mayor via a fancy proclamation—Feb. 18-24 is now ArtSmart Week (thank you David Coss); ARTSmart week also strategically coincides with ARTFeast, Feb. 22-24.

Second, the New Mexico Senate (which is more of a state proclamation, if you wanna get technical) honors Rodeo de Santa Fe, which, beyond a Rodeo event, is also a nonprofit that supports Western heritage and tradition. The official name for it is 'Senate Memorial #49,' which has a nice ring to it. Tuesday, Feb. 19, Senator Phil Gregario honored the rodeo event in the Senate Gallery, officially recognizing Feb. 19 as "Rodeo de Santa Fe Day."
