Weekly Word

Houston Johansen and Gwyneth Doland

By Joey Peters
Weekly-Word

This week, the Weekly Word podcast talks to former Santa Fe City Council candidate Houston Johansen and Foundation for Open Government Executive Director Gwyneth Doland.

Last year, Johansen lost his bid against popular City Council incumbent Patti Bushee, but his efforts got enough of a notice to prompt an appointment to the Santa Fe Charter Review Commission. Johansen explains what the commission does (it recommends ways to improve the charter, which is essentially the city's constitution) and the issues it's facing, including decriminalizing marijuana, term limits for city politicians and ranked choice voting.

Weekly Word also talks with Doland about three bills currently in the legislature that would have a huge impact on open government and transparency.
