Santa Fe plans to increase services for the local homeless population. The Santa Fe Resource and Opportunity Center, which the city runs at 2801 Cerrillos Road, has a newly reorganized management team and wants to hire an additional administrator.

City administrators recently appointed Carol Luna Anderson to assist with operations at the center. She is executive director of Life Link, which provides housing and supportive services to Santa Fe’s homeless and addicted disabled.

Luna Anderson works with Sandra Tompkins, executive director of the Interfaith Community Shelter, in managing the center. In 2010 the city purchased the property for the shelter and center, which are sometimes called Pete’s Pets, because of the old sign outside.

A story about the jobs program pioneered at this center appeared in the Santa Fe Reporter earlier this month. It featured a homeless man who transitioned from alcoholism to full-time employment. More than 20 individuals have found work through the program.

Other service providers also work with visitors to the center. La Familia Medical Center, Life link, the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, St. Elizabeth Shelter, Santa Fe Community Services, and Youth Shelters each have an office within the center.

The center seeks an administrator who can oversee space and services. Job duties include community coordination and program management. Applicants should contact Luna Anderson at 505-438-6011 or carol@thelifelink.org by Jan. 30.

Tompkins says this additional administrator “will provide a consistent service” to the city’s homeless and offer the “potential for growth.”  She also sees the center’s expanded services serving “as a model program for New Mexico.”
