I <3 SANTA FE
Keepitquerque.
Jessica Alba-querque.
Albucrackie.
Albuterol.
Puns.
And the list goes on. Good old neighbor, 59 miles away; Albuquerque; the hot air ballooning capital of the world; the largest city in New Mexico. Xzibit was born in Albuquerque. Etc., etc. The factoids continue on.
Well, it just so happens that Keepitquerque, a nonprofit trade association, is hosting an “I love Albuquerque contest.” Three participants will be awarded first, second and third place. And yeah, Albuquerque is New Mexico’s most populous city. But, Santa Fe is like eight times better than Albuquerque. Santa Fe has tunnels. Santa Fe has Bishop’s Lodge. Santa Fe is not Albuquerque. [Santa Fe has snow].
I moved to Santa Fe in March. There’s mysticism in the landscape. “It’s magical,” people say. And I think it is. Santa Fe is one mega vortex, turquoise, new-agey, adobe lifestyle. Santa Fe ain’t run of the mill. It’s the “holy faith,” bundled in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Land of Enchantment.
So, where’s our “I Love Santa Fe” contest? Santa Fe Reporter? Shall we? Keepitquerque is limiting submission to 250-word-count explanations why you, the assumed participant, love Albuquerque…that’s equivalent to, like, two Twitter tweets. Where’s Santa Fe’s approximate two tweets worth of praise? It’s the capital, afterall…
"Santa Fe has tunnels." Wonder what the author is thinking of. The pedestrian tunnels?
Maybe the Santa Fe Reporter could write a feature on the Santa Fe tunels.
Could we begin an I love Las Vega contest--we are less than an hour away for gosh sakes.
All that you say about Santa Fe is what makes it a bit too precious and fey for me.
