OmegaMart Opening: Saturday, Not Today!

By Alexa Schirtzinger
whalesong-calling-for-peace

A heads-up: We goofed on the date of OmegaMart's (big shiny new supermarket) grand opening wrong. It's not today, but rather this Saturday, July 7, from 11 am until 8 pm. Go check it out!

Here's the updated SFR Pick:

OmegaMart, the super-famous Midwest grocery chain, is finally conquering Santa Fe. Known for selling cheap, mid-grade products such as Omega Oats and the highly controversial Whale Song deodorant, OmegaMart aims to attract customers who are “no longer comfortable spending their whole paycheck at other stores.” Locals have already expressed both excitement and outrage over the new store, so the highly anticipated Santa Fe location opening (its first in the “pesky” Southwest) is sure to create something of a mob scene. Oh, one last thing: this event may or may not be an art exhibition of multimedia stuff of some sort. Bring your coupons just in case.

Put me in the "outraged" category.  Another big box store full of cheap stuff produced by wage-slave labor for working class people with little or no consciousness about how their purchases affect their health or the environment. In a recent ad in the print version of SFR, Omega Mart instructed readers to "Take the Pledge" to become an obidient and loyal consumer before they even opened.

One does not have to spend "their entire pay check" (notice yet another reference to the working class) in order to get quality products. Alexa is correct in describing it as a conquest, as we are continuously colonized by big box stores who do not pay Gross Receipt taxes, killing local business.  I suggest we all bycott this place. I know I will. Santa Fe simply doesn't need anymore of these stores. It would be more appropriate to call it "MegaMart."

One day, after all big box chains have been consolidated, there will likely be just one "mart" chain that has destroyed all competition, providing for all consumer needs. Is this what we want?

Well, I don't know where else you'll be able to get Honey Clumps of Hmmm... Scott.

And I need my Honey Clumps of Hmmm. I bet you're already a slave to lots of things, why not add Omega Mart?

After moving to Santa Fe from Tijeras, NM, I now know that all the artists huf oil paint!
