In this 7 Days column, you mention “$2 million more in budget savings” that the city found “under the couch cushion.” Now, I always expect the Reporter to be arrogantly unfunny in your slacker insensitive way, but what I don’t expect of you lefty yuppies is a disregard for your cultural friends and their livelihood.
I guess you didn’t happen to notice that within those “budget savings” was the entire funding for public access TV. Perhaps you were too busy planning your block party to care that community television is now dead and its employees, who also taught classes at the community college, are without jobs.
[Santa Fe Community Television] produced the first local televised political forums; produced programs that promoted Santa Fe, like the live coverage of Zozobra and the recent coverage of the 400-year anniversary celebration; and it also has trained a whole generation of TV producers, many of whom have stayed in Santa Fe to work in the film industry.
Do me a favor: The next time you want to be callously unfunny, pick on your politically correct darling, [City Councilor] Patti Bushee, who single-handedly killed Community TV.
