CONFIRMED: Homicide Victim Was Ethaan Boyer, 34

Ethaan Boyer was an artist, design consultant and community leader.

UPDATED: According to police, a 34-year-old resident was killed Friday in his home, most likely after walking in on a burglary. Friends confirm that the victim was Ethaan Boyer, a local artist who was active with Warehouse 21 and MIX Santa Fe.

Santa Fe Police Capt. Aric Wheeler said he cannot confirm the name of the victim, but close friend Daniel Werwath and another source tell SFR that it was Boyer. Boyer, a staple in the Santa Fe youth scene, also designed two recent covers for SFR: the annual gift guide and the cover for a story on Los Alamos National Laboratory

Boyer ran a local silkscreen business, fiveheartfive, and the digital design consulting firm Binky Design. Boyer also was a screen printing coordinator at Warehouse 21, the city's youth art center.

"He was an absolutely integral part of Warehouse 21," Ana Wooldridge, W21's manager, tells SFR. "We loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed here."

Wheeler tells SFR that SFPD found a man dead in his home in the 1100 block of West Alameda St. yesterday evening. He says the autopsy will not be conducted until tomorrow.

"This is our first homicide for 2012," Wheeler tells SFR. He says Santa Fe usually has around five homicides per year.

A recent visit to the area did not reveal any crime scene tape or other evidence of the incident.

UPDATED: A memorial service for Boyer will take place this Wednesday, Feb. 29, at 3 pm at the Randall Davey Audubon Center (1800 Upper Canyon Road). Click here for more information.

Ethaan is a good man. We had just met through MIX and were just starting to work together on some small projects. He was extremely helpful to me in setting up some screens and I was looking forward to doing more with him. My condolences to his wife, family, and friends.

This is the saddest thing I have ever heard. When people are not safe in their own homes and a wonderful, giving woman who is a great asset to our community is widowed at 35, her loving husband gone way too soon and for NO reason, we all have to stop & wonder what the hell is wrong with this world and what we can do to change it. A young & brilliant couple's future has been crushed. Senseless and Tragic. Our hearts go out to his family.

Ethaan was an exceptional student of mine at Manteca High School in Manteca, CA. He was kind, intelligent, creative, and comical. This is a major loss to all of us.

Went to college with Ethaan.  Had a smile in his face for everyone. He was truly a good guy.  My heart goes out to his family.
